Church and Confraternity of Our Lady of the Angels

It was erected along the boundary walls of the town, at the care and expense of the laic Confraternity of the same name made up of fishermen and farmers, between 1662 and 1665. A beautiful majolica panel of the nineteenth century can be seen on the front of the church. In the interior there are four large paintings representing The Multiplication of Loaves, The Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes, The Dispute between the Doctors of the Church, The Weddinf Feast at Cana made by Diego Bianchi from Manduria in the 18th century.

Members of this Confraternity, whose patron saints were St.Joseph, St.John the Baptiste, St.Andrew and St.Isidore, were also the artists.

In the church the eighteenth century organ pipe attributed to Giovanni Kircher, which was presumably reorganized and modified by Giovanni Corrado in the nineteenth century, is set in a stone choir on the counter façade.

On Good Friday, this Confraternity forms a partnership with the Confraternity of the Cricifix to organize the mystic procession of the “Mysteries” and they take part in it with the venerated statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.
